Sunblock

Sun block protective for damaging sun rays (UVa and UVb) can in itself be damaging.  It is challenging to find a sun block that is void of parabens, benzones, salates, phenols, and PABA.  Actually, it is impossible in some markets.  These chemicals will bind to cell receptors in the human body and block, fool, or change the natural healthy cell activity.  The damaging results can result in breast development in men and boys, hormone imbalances leading to early menses in girls, and damage to the naturally protective acid mantle of the skin layer which may increase the risk of some skin cancers.
No sunscreen can lead to over-exposure burns to the skin.  Over exposed skin over the years can create damage to the cell’s DNA leading to many types of skin cancers.  Avoiding sunscreen’s potentially toxic effects can lead to disaster, just as using chemically inappropriate sunscreen might.  So the dilemma is upon us.  Settling for a sun block that has only a couple of the damaging ingredients is not good enough.
Families with children of special needs: autism spectrum, cancer, allergies, asthma and immune challenges, cannot afford to place any toxic products on their child’s skin.  The largest organ of the body is the skin.  The skin produces chemicals essential for life, such as the conversion of vitamin D; the skin absorbs across the membrane and allows chemicals to go into circulation which affects the liver, brain, and other vital organs.
Making your own sunscreen at home is an option, yet it might not give a reliable SPF as the commercial brand would.  Here is a recipe that is SPF 4-6 that can be made in the kitchen:
6 T. avocado oil
3 T. shea butter -melt with beeswax
1 T. beeswax
1 tsp. soy lecithin
1 capsule vitamin E
1 T. aloe vera gel
2 T. zinc oxide
3-5 drops essential oil (optional)
3rdRockSunblock produces a 30 SPF that has NO hormone disruptors, PABA, parabens, benzones, or other nasty chemicals.  It’s active ingredient is zinc oxide, which is cleverly delivered so the product does not leave white patches on the skin, it is water resistant, and has phytonutrients that help heal the skin and body.  This is the best solution I have found in years!
